Step by step
Learn the art of lost wax carving
-
Plan
Using one of the wax ring blanks, practice using the tools and plan out a design.
-
Size
Using the ring sizer, shave out the middle of the wax until it fits your desired finger.
-
Carve
Using the tools, carve and shape your ring design onto the wax. Use the sandpaper to thin and shape the wax, and use the scalpel to carve designs into the wax. Ensure the ring is thin, or it will result in a very heavy ring once cast in metal.
-
Post
Pop your ring and order form in the post back to us for it to be cast into either recycled solid silver or recycled gold-plated by our expert jewellers in Hatton Garden in London. We only recommend you sending via Royal Mail Tracked Delivery service.
-
Wear
Your ring will be returned back to the address on the order form in 3-5 weeks, ready to wear!
FAQ's:
Can I upgrade my box from silver to gold?
Our silver ring boxes can be upgraded to gold-plated for an added cost. Please email sweetpeajewellery1@gmail.com to upgrade your ring box!
How long will my ring take to be returned to me?
Each wax ring received will take 3-5 weeks to be cast and returned to the address written on the order form.
Please note all timelines are estimates as all rings are handmade, bespoke to your design.
Which postage service do you recommend?
We only recommend Royal Mail 24/48hr Tracked delivery service. Please note that we take no responsibility for rings lost or damaged in the post.
How long do I have to return my carved wax ring?
Kits are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase. The exact date is stated on your order form found inside your box.
Please do not send in kits that are older than 6 months. Your wax will not be processed. This is due to the changes of metal prices. This is stated on the order forms and multiple places on the website.
What do I do if I need more wax?
If you need any more wax, they are available to buy on our website as a top-up purchase!
What happens if I send the wax back uncarved?
On rare occasions, rings may arrive either un-carved or only minimally carved. We will return the rings to you for further carving. Please note that we do not cover postage costs.
Rings must be fully carved and cannot be left in their original, uncarved state. If you prefer not to have the ring carved, a metal surcharge will apply.
How do I create a fingerprint on the ring?
The tealight candle can be used for any inprints on the wax surface, including using household materials or rocks for a textured effect!
The tealight candle can also be used for fingerprints, however we advise against using on young children and animals as the wax can get very hot quickly due to the low melting temperature. Please use this product at your own discretion and always test the temperature of the wax before use. We do not accept any responsibility for injury.
How thick should the wax ring be?
We strongly recommend making your wax ring as thin as possible. This is due to the weight of the metal once cast, and avoiding having a chunky, heavy, unwearable ring! It’s helpful to compare the thickness with your other rings!
We do not alter the rings once cast. Please keep this in mind.
Why can’t individuals under 18 purchase the kit?
The kit contains a craft scalpel, which includes a blade. For safety reasons, we restrict sales to individuals aged 18 and older.
However, individuals under 18 can use this kit with adult supervision. Thank you for understanding!
We do not accept any responsibility for injury.
What is the order form?
Each kit includes an order form, please make sure you fill this in with your details, and post it back to us with your ring. This allows us to send the finished ring back to the correct address!
Kindly note, we will not cast any wax rings sent back without this form.
